Catskill Confidential

Past Forward

by Margaret Bruetsch

Sitting on the front porch of The Western Hotel in Callicoon, it’s easy to imagine slipping back in time to the town as it was when the Western first opened in 1852. The Historic Victorian building presides over the center of town like the matriarch of Upper Main Street. Listed on the National Historic Register, the Western is the crown jewel of Callicoon, with a beautiful two-story covered terrace that overlooks historic Main Street with views of the Catskill Mountains in the distance.
